We believe that the universal Human Values reside within each one of us in full potential, like a seed under the ground waiting to sprout.
The challenge for the Toogoolawa teachers, in particular, is to create the ideal school environment for each Human Value to sprout and grow in every single one of the students. To this end, the teachers of Toogoolawa Schools all strive to behave according to the Code of Ethics set out below:
|
 |
| |
Toogoolawa's Code of Ethics is based on the five Human Values |
|
|
LOVE can be expressed by:
* Relating to the 'wise inner goodness' of each student
* Whenever possible, putting the interest of the student ahead of one's own
* Using caring and respectful words
* Developing compassion, so that the student's pain and frustration
is felt and understood |
 |
|
TRUTH can be expressed by:
* Practising honesty in dealing with students, staff, friends, society and
encouraging honesty in the student
* Recognising that we are more than a body which moves, thinks and feels -
that we are all Kings and Queens in disguise
* Learning to discover and trust one's own intuition
* Developing self-confidence and having trust in a Higher Power |
|
PEACE can be expressed by:
* Being a good listener
* Taking time to explain things carefully, sometimes more than once
* Showing patience and tolerance, even when provoked
* Moving without hurry and haste |
|
|
RIGHT CONDUCT can be expressed by:
* Behaving towards others (particularly students) as one would like others
to behave towards oneself
* Demonstrating personal tidyness, punctuality and integrity
* Being true to the dictates of one's own conscience
* Having respect for society's laws, the elderly, one's parents,
and for the customs and practices of other cultures and faiths |
 |
|
NON-VIOLENCE can be expressed by:
* Refraining from using hurtful words or actions
* Not speaking (or thinking) badly about others
* Speaking gently and kindly, even when firmness is required
* Avoiding the expression of one's own anger, resentment, bitterness, jealousy and
selfishness - changing them into Love and Peace as much as we can |
| |
As students learn to live according to these Values, their character grows in self-confidence and self-reliance, bearing fruit in the form of increased academic performance.
Teachers and school volunteers must themselves be
living examples of what they require the students to be. |
